Just four episodes into the 13-episode first season of black comedy-drama The United States Of Tara, the Showtime network has ordered a second, 12-episode season.
The show, executive-produced by Steven Spielberg and created by Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody, stars Toni Collette as Tara Gregson, a wife and mother-of-two teenage kids who suffers from dissociative identity disorder and frequently switches between a number of different personalities (known as alters), particularly at times of stress.
Her alters include T, a promiscuous 16-year-old wild-child, Alice, an outwardly prim and proper perfect housewife, and Buck, a hard-drinking, foul-mouthed, aggressive – but loyal – male troublemaker.
Former Northern Exposure and Sex And The City star John Corbett plays Tara’s long-suffering, and very patient and understanding, husband Max.
The second season will film later this year and is due to air in early 2010.
