Top Of The Pops Thursday: The Pogues – Dirty Old Town

First of all, apologies for Top Of The Pops Thursday appearing on a Friday this week – the Choob’s semi-detached mansion suffered a power cut last night which lasted for 15 hours (thanks ScottishPower).

Anyway, better late than never, as they say (this week’s Classic Clip Friday might have to get pushed back to Saturday as well, though I’ll try to get it posted later tonight, work permitting).

So, without any further ado…

Since it was St Patrick’s Day earlier in the week, this week’s live performance is The Pogues‘ version of Dirty Old Town, featuring the late Kirsty MacColl, recorded during a gig at London’s Town And Country Club on St Patrick’s Day 1988.

The footage is taken from a rare Japanese videodisc of the concert and the clip includes an introduction by The Clash frontman, the late Joe Strummer.
