Video Killed The Radio Star: John Parr – St. Elmo’s Fire (Man In Motion)

How can something so wrong… somehow be so right?

It’s St Elmo’s Fire (Man In Motion) by John Parr, the theme song from director Joel Schumacher‘s 1985 brat-pack movie.

Even by 1980s, big-haired, soft-rock standards, this song (and its video) is particularly cheesy.

And yet I’ve always liked it – I even bought the 12-inch single back in the day – though I can’t really explain why.

It’s not just because of the link to the film which, though not in the same class as John Hughes‘ brat-pack offerings such The Breakfast Club, is still something of a guilty pleasure. There’s just something a little bit special that makes it stand out from the crowd of 80s soft-rock dross.

Anyway, here’s the video (incidentally, fans of the movie may be interested to know that in August this year, US network ABC won a bidding war for the rights to develop a TV comedy-drama series based on the film).

Enjoy!
